Darting Basics - History of Darts

.

Since the origin of darts dates back to the early to mid 1800's, there's no better way to present the history of darts than from someone who knows the history of the game better than anyone else- Patrick Chaplin. Patrick Chaplin has been described in the UK as ‘The Doctor of Darts’ (Darts World magazine), ‘eccentric’ (The Guardian) and an ‘arrers nut’ (The Sun).

The truth is that he is one of a few people on this planet trying to piece together the history of the game, the origins of which have been traditionally ‘lost in the mists of time’. The purpose of his articles is to eventually reveal the real history of darts whilst, in the process, exploding a few myths about the game. They are also designed to enable those interested in the history and development of the game to share and exchange information. He intends eventually to cover the global history of the game.
After fifteen years of research he doesn't pretend to have all the answers. Mr. Chaplin is currently focusing on achieving a Doctorate (PhD) in the Social History of Darts in the Twentieth Century at the Anglia Polytechnic University in Cambridge which he hopes to complete by 2003.
